In celebration of Women’s History Month, we honor Shelly Buck, president of Riddle Hospital
, a true trailblazer in healthcare leadership. While women make up the backbone of the healthcare workforce, leadership roles remain disproportionately out of reach. Buck is changing that narrative, breaking barriers, and leaving a lasting mark—earning her the well-deserved title of Nurse of the Week.
Buck’s journey began at the bedside as a registered nurse, where her dedication to patient care laid the foundation for an extraordinary career. Becoming a hospital president wasn’t part of her original plan; she focused on providing quality care and advocating for patients. But through passion, perseverance, and a deep commitment to her work, she steadily rose through the ranks—ultimately stepping into the role of president at Riddle Hospital just before the world was upended by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amid the COVID crisis, Buck led Riddle Hospital’s pandemic response and oversaw a significant expansion of the facility, a key initiative under Main Line Health. Under her leadership, what was once a small suburban hospital has grown into a thriving medical campus while maintaining its core values and strong community ties.
“The best reward has been seeing the transformation of Riddle Hospital without losing its heart—the values, the commitment to the community, the support of the community, the employees,” Buck shared.
Her background in nursing continues to shape her leadership, keeping patient care at the forefront of every decision. Having walked in the shoes of frontline healthcare workers, she understands their challenges firsthand. Now, she’s focused on mentoring and uplifting others, particularly women aspiring to advance in their careers.
“I just get so much joy in doing this work because I know it’s bigger than me. It’s not just about me—it’s about the lives entrusted to our care,” Buck said.
Her story is a testament to resilience, passion, and the profound impact of nursing. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, Shelly Buck is an inspiring example of how dedication and heart can break barriers and redefine possibilities. Congratulations to our Nurse of the Week!
